Trade in your resolutions for a new attitude and make this your year. Your year can be whatever you want it to be. That doesn’t mean that your dreams will be miraculously handed to you on a plate. It means that you can approach the year differently. Get away from specific prescriptions or proscriptions and move towards a new attitude. Think ‘Yes I can’ and ‘I will try’ without setting any specifics. Take it one step at a time; leave yourself open to whatever comes next. How can you do this? It’s not always easy, but it is simple. Nurture and Love the Woman Within You Get to know yourself. Spend time alone, in your own company. Learn the difference between being alone and being lonely. Being alone gives you time to reflect, to digest what is happening in your life and make conscious choices about what will happen next. Listen to the voice in your head. What is it saying? Give yourself some positive feedback. What have you done well lately?  Who have you helped lately? What made you smile? Learn more about the woman inside you. Like her, nurture her and love her. Choose How To Respond The year will still have its bumpy spots. When life throws a challenge at you, tell yourself ‘I am strong enough.’ When faced with an obstacle, remember that you don’t need to solve it all at once. Take it one step at a time. Start with a deep breath: anyone can do that, and it does clear your head. Then take another small step forward. Do that a few times and you will find yourself on your way to conquering the challenge. On any day of the year, know that in December you will look back with pride and satisfaction on how you handled it. Rise to challenges. Reach for new goals. See what you can really do.   Be inspired by positive thoughts. Get to know, love and trust yourself. You have so much talent and strength within you. Make this your year!

But just to line them up briefly, the idea is that hiring managers on LinkedIn really need only three questions answered before hiring you. Those questions are:Who are you?What motivates you?Can you do the job:Using this lens, lets figure out what applications you should be using on LinkedIn.The ChoiceFirst off, we know that Can you do the job is answered by your experiences and your education (perhaps your recommendations). We also know, from the video, that this question isnt really the most important.Who are you can be answered by things such as what you do in your spare time, your hobbies, your values and your passions. The answer to this question is often very subtle:   colors chosen, punctuality, tone or voice in your writing.What motivates you can be answered by things like what books you are reading, what articles are you writing, what places you are visiting, what events you are attending and what presentations you are creating.Catching on yet?LinkedIn applications answer the question of what motivates you. Your company likely posts positions on its website, but it may also list opportunities internally before advertising to outsiders. If you dont already know exactly how positions are posted, finding out should be your first priority. In this exploratory stage, you may not want to announce your intentions to everyone in the office, or to your boss, but a quick search on your companys website or a review of the employee handbook should provide the information you need about how to identify internal opportunities. Dont forget to follow your own company on  LinkedIn  if it maintains a presence there, as it can be a great way to find out information about new job opportunities you may have missed. Research your organization. What kind of people does your company seem to like? You can learn a lot by talking to others who have worked in the organization a long time. What have their  career paths  been? Ask about their moves from one job to the next. Were they promoted? Did they take lateral moves to other departments? How supportive (or not) were their supervisors? Were there programs at the company they tapped into to help them plan and navigate their careers? Asking these and other questions can help you understand your organizations approach to internal transfers. Prepare to explain your goals. When youre seeking a promotion, its easy to explain why you want to move from the job you have to the better opportunity. However, you may be considering a lateral move that doesnt come with more money or prestige. If thats the case, be ready to explain your motivations. Realistically, your goal may be to  move away from a difficult boss, or perhaps youre hoping a new department wont expect you to work so many hours. Neither of these reasons are compelling from the institutions perspective, so be sure you plan a reasonable explanation that seems like a win-win. For example, you may explain that you want your skills to be more well rounded to enhance your ability to work with clients. Or, you have a very strong interest inmarketing  and believe your  customer service  background and skills provide a good foundation for being successful in the new department. Talk to your supervisor. Once you identify why you are motivated to look for a different  position inside the company, and have seen at least one position that interests you, its time to speak to your supervisor. Explain your goals and ask your boss to support your career plans. Keep the conversation very positive; do not indicate your desire to move reflects poorly on his or her leadership. Even if it does, it is not likely to help your case by sharing your feelings. Apply for the job. Yes, you can use your company email to apply for an internal position. Depending on the process, it may be the only thing that differentiates you from other applicants and will alert hiring managers that youre applying from within. Even though you should have an advantage, dont rely on your internal candidacy to make the case for winning the job. Compose well-written and thought out application materials that describe why you are a good fit and how your accomplishments support your ability to do a great job in the proposed role. From the point of applying on, prepare and act as you would if you were seeking an external job. Take the process very seriously and plan ahead what you will say in an  interview. Since youre an internal candidate, theres even more pressure on you to be able to describe how you can help the organization in the new role.
